Search Engine Optimization has been define by WIKI as: Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of optimizing your Web site for search engines so that your site comes up high in the search engine result pages (SERPs).
SEO is a legitimate form of marketing and an important aspect of Web site design and publishing. The process simply means making sure your Website can be indexed by the search engines. Search Engines like Google send out web crawlers the check the content of websites and base on the results the site is index for the most relevant content to what search term (s) (keyword or keywords) a user uses to locate the information they desire.
SEO makes it easier for the Search engine crawler to index a website by structure the code the crawler reads. You see a web’s page copy is converted to HTML (Hyper Text Markup Language) code and this is what the crawler reads. To see this code on any site go to a site, right click your mouse, and select view source. You will then see what the crawler sees.
Search engines then look for sites to serve up in a matter of second to someone’s search term.
One of the most basic elements of SEO is keyword research. You see most site are design backwards, it is like the tail wagging the dog. In considering building a website, the first and foremost decision to make is to establish exactly what is the purpose of the site. Is it to provide information, to sell a product or products, to obtain a lead? Once you decide the purpose then you can go about designing the site with that purpose in mind.
The next step in to see how and why the competition is ranking on the SERP for the keyword or words your site is attempting to rank for. It is important to see how by using SEO techniques and why this site has the ranking it has achieved. Again it a matter of looking at the source code, the title of the site, its meta description, and meta keywords these would give a web designer a good start in building a site for you.
This is just the beginning phase of promoting a website so that it achieves a high ranking. SEO is an on going process and there are several other aspect that are too number some for this article. Suffice to say if you want to promote you website then it has to be done using SEO techniques to make the site search engine friendly.
