Of the many languages that are taught in colleges and universities today, three languages that tend to be outpacing the others in terms of growth include Russian, Spanish and Chinese. In this article we will take a critical examination of the trends that fuel increased registration for Russian, Spanish and Chinese translation to determine why they are becoming increasingly popular choices for U.S. college and university students.

Russian to English Translation
Thirty years ago, there was not much demand for the services provided by Russian Translation Services. During the early to mid 1980′s English speaking countries throughout the world began noticing an immediate need for Russian Translation Services. Among the major historical events that marked the rise in importance of the Russian language was when Mikhail Gorbachev became head of the Soviet Party in Russian and announced reforms. Although the economic reforms that Gorbachev implemented made little difference to the citizens of Russia, he later enacted the human rights policies of free speech and political reform that brought shock and awe to the old style of government in Russia. A a result, the USSR began to see a completely different type of politician being ushered into public office at the end of the 1980′s. The end of the decade brought upheaval the former Soviet Union satellites. Eventually, the republics of the Soviet Union started to demand independence. At the start of the 1990′s, the unsuccessful victory effort by conservative activists dealt the greatest loss to the empire. Then Russia declared itself as “independent” while the Soviet Union collapses and joined with Ukraine and Belarus to form the Commonwealth of Independent States, which is eventually joined by all former Soviet republics except the Baltic states. As approval for Gorbachev tapered off, the world saw Russia usher in Boris Yelstin as the country’s new President. Finally, in December of 1991, the history of the USSR finally ended. Even though the Soviet Union died, it allowed Russia to flourish into an economic powerhouse. While some stability seems to exist in Russia today, in recent times they have experienced wars with Chechnya, a series of bomb explosions in Russia, which are blamed on Chechen extremists, two financial crises and so on. But while Russia’s past have been rocky, it’s future looks promising due to the countries valuable resources that include huge oil reserves.

Spanish to English Translation

Most Americans and Europeans understand the significance that Mexico has in today’s global economy and realize that it is a critical trade partner with the United States, Canada and other countries throughout the world. Even in the United States, Spanish-speaking populations have grown in size, wealth and importance to business. Because Spanish is critically important in business, trade and commerce all business have invested in localizing their marketing and other materials for Spanish speaking audiences. Although the Spanish language is the second most-common language in the United States, it is by far the most widely spoken language throughout North and South America and has an estimate 260-million speakers. In terms of growth, many statisticians believe that by 2020, nearly 20-percent of all people in the U.S. will be Hispanic. Spanish is the second world language as a vehicle of international communication and the third as an international language of politics, economics and culture. The demand for Spanish courses has doubled worldwide in ten years.

English to Chinese Translation
Along with the rise of Russian and Spanish, Chinese Translation companies have multiplied in number and in size to accomodate the economic growth of China. China, the world’s second largest economy by purchasing power parity, contributes over 10% to global economic output. But the strength of the Chinese economy isn’t the only reason why there has been a surge in demand for Chinese Translation Services in recent years. It is mindboggling to think that more than 25-percent of the entire population of the globe speaks Chinese as their primary language. Not only is Chinese spoken in China and in Chinese communities in large developed nations, it is also spoken in other powerful manufacturing oriented countries like Taiwan and Singapore.
