Teaching English To Speakers Of Other Languages As A Job

You can make a big difference to the lives of many people when your become a teacher. There are opportunities to teach in many different institutions across the UK including state schools and universities. History, English and Science are popular subjects for new teachers in the past few years with many places being oversubscribed and newly qualified teachers having no job when they finish their degree. This is not a problem if you decide to work teaching English to speakers of other languages in the UK, as there is a great demand for English language teachers to help thousands of people in the UK to learn English.

The qualifications needed to be a TESOL teacher in Britain are varied depending on what type of school you will be teaching at. Most people will not be able to start a TESOL career if they do not have a graduate degree. If you are looking to teach in state schools within the UK then you will also need to have completed a PGCE.

You will be responsible for lesson planning, classroom teaching, classroom management, setting exams, giving feedback for completed work and basic administration duties as a TESOL teacher. Some teachers will be asked to get involved with other things at their school like sports days and excursions.

Not all TESOL work is undertaken in a school however. business workers and students also need TESOL teaching in order to be able to enter the workplace or attend a UK university. most of this type of work takes place in commercial language schools around Britain.

You can get permanent contracts in schools, especially in inner city regions, whereas commercial jobs tend to be temporary and seasonal. TEFL or teaching English is a foreign language is what you need to look at if you would like to teach English in another country.
