England is home to people from around the world, nearly every country is represented in our eclectic cities. It is now a necessity that anyone claiming immigration in Britain has a certain level of English under their belt, however this is not enough for most people to be able to have a decent conversation in English. It is extremely hard to integrate with the rest of society if you cannot hold a conversation with anyone outside your own circle. What is the point in moving to England if you are only going to associate yourself with your original culture and homeland?
It might be a controversial issue, but if everyone living in England is able to speak fluent English, cultures are not being erased but we are able to share our cultural differences instead of been ignorant of them. This is why we need more TESOL certified teachers to be able to teach children and adults how to be able to hold understandable conversations in English, and socialise with people from different cultures and backgrounds.
You will gain many skills and enjoy your job if you start teaching English to speakers of other languages. Whilst you do not need to be a qualified teacher, to be able to teach English to immigrants you need to be of graduate level. If you want to work in the private sector, it is possible to be a TESOL teacher without a degree but only if you have an excellent understanding of the language. To work in a state school in the UK as a TESOL teacher, on top of your degree you will also need a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). Young graduates are the ideal candidates to become TESOL teachers as they can conduct a PGCE and will not have so much competition for jobs as more popular subjects like English and maths.
